Hawker Food at New Lane (Tasty Grilled Chicken Wing & Cuttlefish & Water Convolvulus)

OMG~ I just found out that the Grilled Chicken Wings and Cuttlefish & Water Convolvulus (Yau Yu Ong Choi) at New Lane tasted so good leh! I’ve had my dinner there for so many times and I never know that. I’m soo not qualified to be a food blogger huh?

Just look at the shiny, perfectly grilled chicken wings. The Honey Grilled Chicken Wing tasted great with tender meat and sweet taste. Not too sweet and very fragrant.

The Beef Koay Teow Soup got my friend’s vote but I still prefer the one located opposite the fire station at Chulia Street.

This one tasted similar to the night stall at Sg. Nibong area. Soup base is less creamy but fragrant enough.

The Cuttlefish & Water Convolvulus (Yau Yu Ong Choi) is the best I’ve tasted at Penang so far. I am originated from center part of Malaysia which the yau yu ong choi don’t have any prawn paste in it. When I was first at Penang, I totally not able to accept that prawn paste is mix into chee cheung fun and yau yu ong choi. But as I stayed longer here, I begin to like it!

What I love about this yau yu ong choi is there are 3 types of sauce in it; chili sauce, prawn paste and sweet sauce. It gives the dish a sweet, spicy and fragrant flavour.

The char koay teow that we ordered tasted normal only. Tad oily and less flavouful. I guess we ordered the wrong stall ya. ;)

New Lane is  busy street at night which is quite a popular spot for tourist too.

I like the tong sui at New Lane, piping hot ginkgo nuts dessert.
the CKT rather pricey, due to the shavings of crab meat atop.

The food definitely looks so delicious… I’m not familiar with the yau yu ong choi dish and I don’t think we have it here in Jakarta. Ah… definitely a must to try when I visit Malaysia :)

The last visit here was a memorable one especially for my kids, they think it was the most enjoyable meal they had for the trip. Why not, all the aunties and uncles keep on ordering until the table has no more space for the plates… http://tailim.blogspot.com/2009/12/sin-yin-nam-cafe-new-lane-lorong-baru.html
