Fried Fish Bihun Soup – Allie’s Favourite

This stall has always been my favorite stall for bihun soup with fried fish. Few months ago, the coffee shop that this stall located in was going through a renovation. Been hunting for other stalls which sell bihun soup with fried fish, but
somehow I am still not able to find a stall with crispy and succulent fried fish comparable to this stall. :(

Glad that this coffee shop is done with renovation now and is name with Yummy Cottage. I can savor my bowl of fried fish bihun now!

Song River | Penang Restaurant

Taro fish meat bihun. I am so attracted by it after I read a post in aftergiovanni. I always keep this in my mind that I MUST try this out. Finally, on one fine Sunday morning I tought of this fishmeat bihun. I can’t exactly remember the location of the place which serve the taro fish meat bihun, the only memory that I have is, it’s located somewhere near Song River or is it Song River?

I really can’t recall the exact location, so… what to do? We just can try our luck, and we picked Song River Restaurant which is located along Gurney Drive.

My bf recommended the osyer noodle and fried egg with bitter gourd. But I insisted to have fish meat bihun, so we ask the waitress whether they serve such dish. Yes, they do have but no taro fish meat bihun … means we stepped into the wrong place!

The oyster noodle was served in a claypot with a generous amount of osyter displyed on top.

Duck Drumstick Mee Suah @ Sg. Pinang ; Penang Hawker Food

It was a cloudy Sunday morning and we were out to hunt for our breakfast. Our initial intention was Beef Koay Teow @ Chulia Street. But when we are on our way there, the crowds and the hawker stalls stretching along Jalan Sungai Pinang attracted us. So, we decided to stop by and had our breakfast there.

After we were seated, N told me that this place is famous for its duck drumstick mee suah. Hehe… without a second thought, I ordered a bowl of mee suah. But to my disappointment, duck drumstick had sold out. :( . So I changed to duck meat instead.

Fried Fish Fillet Bihun | Penang Hawker Food

It was my colleague who introduced this place to me. One of our Singapore counterpart came and this is the place we brought him for breakfast. My Singapore colleague had visited this stall a few times during his previous trips.

Aiyo… I’m so paiseh lo… I’ve stayed in Penang for ~5 years and yet I do not know about this stall. You should really know this stall as they serve the best fried fish fillet bihun I’ve ever tasted.

The mandarin character spelled that they sell fish stomach bihun. After we confronted the stall owner, this was they old stall name. Last time they used to use fish stomach but as times goes by, they change to fish fillet. As there are lots of bones in fish stomach and many people don’t like it.

It’s very easy to locate this stall. It’s located opposite Red Rock Hotel, in the restaurant where at night the very famous Lye Lye Bah Kut Teh operates.

Fried Fish Fillet Bihun Soup Stall This is a bowl of bihun soup with mix ingredients. They are an egg, pig liver, fu chuk, minced pork and fish ball. You can opt for koay teow or maggi mee to replace the bihun.

The fish fillet is served separately. One bite into the fish fillet, you’ll be mesmerized by the crispiness of the batter of the fish. It’s so crispy that you do not want to stop munching on it. The fish meat is tender and without any fishy or muddy smell.

I luv to dip the fish into the soup for a while before I bite on it. It’ll add some juicy feeling in the fish and yet the crispiness is maintain. Talking about it already make me drool.

They use siakap fish. All have been deboned.
Deboned Siakap Fish See the fish fillet. Lots of them. They are cut into thick pieces.
