If recently anyone ask me, “Which place would you recommend for a romantic dinner?”, I’d definitely suggest The Sire Museum Restaurant. Are you getting any confuse; is it a museum or a restaurant? It’s both actually.

The Sire Museum Restaurant is previously the house of Yeap Chor Ee. His grandson ‘transformed’ his house into a museum based restaurant to commemorate Yeap Chor Ee’s birthday. The restaurant has a very cosy and romantic environment. The moment I entered this restaurant, I’ve fallen in luv with it. It was warmly lighted with soft music playing in the background.

As we were being seated at the inner part of the restaurant, I noticed that there is another hall which lead to the museum. The museum of peranakan (baba & nyonya). In the museum, there are a series of facts on how Mr. Yeap Chor Ee begin his career. It was very inspiring! There are a lot more things to be seen in the museum, guess you’ll enjoy it more if you find if out yourself then I describing it here.

We were served with nicely baked baguette. It’s crispy and tasted cheesy. I like it!

Wild Mushroom Soup (RM 15.80) served with rich cream and rye bread. The mushroom soup is thick and fragrant. I’d be more happy if the rye bread can be exchange with the toasted baguette.

Tenderloin Medallions (RM 49.80) was ordered medium well. The steak is juicy but not the best that I’ve tasted.

When I said ‘Lor Mee‘, I guess you’d imagine thick gravy with some herbs and spices taste bowl of noodle. Today I’d like to write about a special bowl of lor mee.

You can get this ’special lor mee’ at Kafe Fountain which is located along Carnarvon Street.

The gravy for this special lor mee is much thicker than the normal lor mee. This lor mee is stir fried together with the thick gravy. Yes, you do read correctly. Stir Fried. That’s why I call it ‘special lor mee‘.

This lor mee tasted like shark fin soup. It must be due to the vinegar added into it during preparation. The dark thick gravy is cook with egg. There are bits of fish meat, pork and prawn. For RM3.80 you get a big bowl of lor mee.

Other than lor mee, there are other hawker food that you can have here. You can have the char koay teow here too.

This plate of char koay teow is with duck egg. Although it looks very red, but it’s not very spicy. Taste wise, not bad. The only drawback is the ckt is a bit dry.

There are also a stall selling roasted duck, roasted pig (siew yuk and char siew). We ordered a plate with combination of roasted duck and siew yuk.

The roasted duck is too dry. There’s no sauce for us to dip to compensate on the dry meat.

The siew yuk is sinfully good. Not the best I’ve eaten, but good.

Or Chien (Oyster Omelette) tasted good leh! I love this Or Chien due to there’s lots of egg and very less tapioca flour in it.

When I read about Lang Sae Lee Thai Food in Lingzie’s blog, I vowed to go there as I love Thai food especially those very spicy which make you sweat!

Lang Sae Lee Thai Food is located by Tan’s Jetty. The dining area is actually situated at the house compound area.

Upon seated, we were asked to order our drinks. Mdm Lee recommended us to try out her homemade Ribena. Don’t be surprise if you don’t taste any ‘Ribena Taste’ in the drink. It tasted more like sour plum drink. I like the taste of the drink, appetizing and refreshing on a hot sunny afternoon.

The menu is just a simple photo book. Looking at the photo menu already makes me drool.

I remember Lingzie said the fish cake tasted good, so we ordered fish cake too. And yes! The fish cake didn’t disappoint us. It’s full of kaffir leaves fragrant and the cucumber chili sauce goes well with it.

Whenever we eat Thai’s, we’ll definitely order Tom Yam Soup. It’s our favourite. A small bowl of Red Seafood Tom Yam Soup is just enough for 2 of us. Don’t you get deceive by the look of this bowl of tom yam. A first sip of the soup reveals the perfect level of spiciness and sourness (at least for me and my bf).

We just can’t stop drinking the soup, and the feeling of the warm stomach and the heat makes us sweat from inside is packed with omph! I love this!

Dry Curry Rich in Coconut and Basil Leave is very spicy. The first mouthful of this dish reveals a very heavy taste of kaffir leaves and spices which is a MUST to eat with white rice. When we swallowed it, the spiciness start to attack our throat. It’s a very special sensation.

This version is different from Maa Roy’s version. Maa Roy’s is so rich in coconut milk. If you ask me which is better, I feel that both has their uniqueness.

And this ended our first meal at Lang Sae Lee.

Wondering where to have your tea time at Penang? Whenever during weekend, I like to drive to Cintra Street for the Curry Chee Cheong Fun (ccf). When I found out this ccf in year 2008, I’m liking it until now.

The ccf is served with thick chicken curry gravy. I love mine to have some sweet sauce to mix with the curry. This will create a little sweetness in spiciness.

The thick curry gravy is full of curry and coconut juice fragrant. It goes very well with the bland ccf.

When you are at Cintra Street, apart from the curry chee cheung fun you can have chinese dumplings (bah chang), yam cake and tong sui too!

We wanted to have the chinese dumpling (bah chang) that day, but we were told they were sold out! (it was around 4pm that day). So my dear readers, if you would like to try out the bah chang, visit them earlier.

For a dessert lover like me, a bowl of red bean tong sui is perfect for the tea time. They cook the red bean together with mandarin orange peel which added fragrant to the sweet soup.

The yam cake tasted good too! I like the cubes of yam hidden inside the yam cake. It add some texture to the yam cake.

Dip it with sweet and chili sauce, it taste awesome!

Apart from the curry ccf, red bean soup and yam cake, there are more hawker food available at Cintra Street. Refer to What2seeonline for more yummy food!

Initially I suggested Chili’s hoping to give her a birthday surprise where the Chili’s Restaurant’s staff will sing her a birthday song and compliment her a birthday cake just like the Hard Rock Cafe Birthday Dinner.

But Birthday girl wanted to have light dinner and she prefer Manila Place. Well, birthday girl is the queen of the night right. So Manila Place it is.

Browsing thru the menu, I got attracted by the 100% fresh fruit juice with NO sugar added.

Birthday girl and me ordered Pineapple + guava + orange + lemon (if I remember correctly). It tasted sourish with minimal sweetness. So tasty yet healthy!

The carrot + lemon juice tasted weird Carrot taste does not blend with lemon.

Since birthday girl wanted to eat light, she ordered only sandwich. The sandwich is pretty standard. Oh! I love the side dish (potato wedges). The outer layer is very crispy and the inner potato is fluffy.

Seafood Tom Yam Noodle doesn’t disappoint us. The soup is sourish and not very spicy.

It comes with mussels, prawns, mushrooms and some chicken breast fillet.

My friend is so excited to see the big prawns and asked me to snap a picture of it.

I ordered fruit salad. I love this fruit salad especially the tangy orange like salad dressing. It’s very appetizing! The lettuce and fruits are fresh as well.

The restaurant is lighted with warm light and very comfortable to dine in. It’s a cosy place for a romantic couple dinner or a gathering dinner of friends and colleagues.

Ki Xiang offers 2 types of bah kut teh; bah kut teh soup and dry bah kut teh. Dry bah kut teh is not very common or popular in Penang but is already common in KL.
I like my bah kut teh to be served in a claypot to maintain the warmth of the soup. There are still a minimal stalls using normal bowl for bah kut teh.

The dry bah kut teh is also serve in a claypot. There are some dry chilies, ladies finger and dried cuttlefish to enhance the flavour of the dry bah kut teh.

You can always choose your favourite type of meat to be included in your bah kut teh. I don’t really know how to differentiate the parts of the pork. So, I’ll just let the pictures do the talking

My trip to Taiwan last month was a great one! We fly to Taipei with Air Asia and landed at Taoyuan Airport. It was on early Dec, therefore the weather is cooling (minimum temperature during our trip was 12 Deg C).

One of the food that make my family members screamed for is Yilan Spring Onion Pancake (Cong You Bing). Yilan is famous for cultivating spring onion, therefore you can imagine how fresh the spring onion can be.

Our driver recommended us this stall for the Cong You Bing; “San Xing“.

Cong You Bing is actually a delicacy which lots of chopped spring onions with some minced meat wrapped underneath a thin layer of dough.

See those freshly chopped spring onions…

The Cong You Bing is then fried on a pan.

And if you want your cong you bing to be spicy, they will sprinkle some chili powder on top of it. Just like the Shilin Crispy Chicken.

A bite into the Cong You Bing reveals a thin layer of crispy and spicy skin with juicy and fragrant spring onions flavoured with minced meat. It tasted awesome!

Although I don’t really like spring onion, but I too got addicted to this cong you bing.

If someone ask you, ‘Would you like to have a full course curry meal? ‘ , what would come across your mind? When my uncle asked me that when I first arrived at Penang, I was imagining an Indian cuisine. To my very surprise, it’s actually hawker food which serve curry mee with a wide variety of curry side dishes.

This curry mee stall is located at Raja Uda, Butterworth which only operates at dinner time. This stall is always flooded with customers during my visits.

Upon arriving, the more than 10 curry dishes definitely caught my attention. The fragrant of the curry spices immediately attack my nostril. Being a tam chiak (person who loves to eat) girl, if can I want to order all those curry dishes be it curry chicken, curry squid, curry prawn, curry clams, curry string ray, etc! Let’s forget about the cholesterol for the time being

This is actually pretty similar to Tua pui curry mee but this one has more curry dishes in variety.

Recently I’m being advise by my doctor that I should avoid eating those char koay teow, curry mee and fried food due to some health issue. Even chocolate! Gosh! How can I ever avoid eating chocolate? Sigh… no more fun and excitement already!

Since I love food with heavy taste, and now my diet is limited to those food in ‘healthy category’, I have to hunt for something with exotic flavour to excite my tastebud.

A bowl of Sour and Spicy Bihun Soup with adequate amount of greens and tomatoes should be able to do the tricks.

You can choose to have fried fish fillet or slice fish fillet or fish head to be included in the bihun soup. I’d always prefer mine to have fried fish fillet as it’s more fragrant. Although it’s fried, but it’s not oily. So I guess I still can continue consuming it right? *wink*

Hot, spicy and sour soup flowing in my throat and into stomach. Such a warm feeling. Consume more soup and you’ll feel drops of sweats starting to flowing down from head to cheeks.

This is similar to the one at Wang Chao Jun except that this isn’t serve in a claypot. After we finished our meal only I realized that they sell steamed hor fun with fish. I’m definitely coming back here to try out the steamed hor fun with fish. Wonder if it’s as good as Wang Chao Jun’s.

My bf ordered oyster noodle which came flooded with gravy. Hmm… the gravy is too plain and actually there’s not much taste.

Both of us still prefer the Oyster noodle at Song River which is much more flavorful.

During normal weekdays lunch time, the waiting time could be as long as 45mins – 1hr. I was lucky that day, went there around 11am++ on Saturday and only waited for 15minutes. When the clock strikes 12pm, customers starts to fill in the restaurant.

Other than these 2 dishes, there a quite a variety of food available leg. chu char type of dishes and fried rice or fried noodle.

Business hour: From morning till 2pm. Closed on Tuesday
